The 34 day season begins
We are back! We said all along that we will do whatever it takes to have a season. We just wanted a chance.
Well NYS is giving us this chance starting today and I personally had trouble sleeping last night.
Our theme this year is UBUNTU. This translates to "I am because we are". We are all in it together and no one gets there alone.
We need our teammates and our teammates need us. It is what makes us complete.
We have no idea what tomorrow will bring but today we will focus on being there for each other.
LETS BALL!!!!
The Journey Starts
We are already in our second week preparing for what potentially could be a memorable season.
Our focus this year is embracing the journey taking care of only what we can control which is today.
The sectionals will be here soon enough but if we concern ourselves with working hard and making our teammates better we will be happier. The future will become the present and the present the past and they it will be all memories.
There is a song out now about wishing you had five more minutes.
If we stay in the moment and appreciate where we are instead of where we want to be;
Then we won't need those five more minutes
Lets get started

It seems like everything we do is in preparation for the upcoming season. Now that it is here, I want everyone to know we are prepared and ready to make another big run. Lets all make sure we take the time to enjoy the journey and have fun.
For the seniors and their parents, it will go fast. For underclassmen and your parents. Just ask a senior and they will tell you how it will fly by.
We are all very fortunate to be part of Penfield Girls' Basketball.
If we foucus on what is best for the progam, I am sur it will be rewarding for all.
Proud to be part of this Program

I generally do not know who is at our games but last Friday I did and it reminded me how lucky I am to be a basketball coach at Penfield High School.. We were playing at Fairport which is one of the few schools that opens the bleachers behind the bench.
I turned around before the game and I saw PYB teams with their coaches and parents. I saw high school teachers who came to support their students and I saw extended families with grandparents and aunts and uncles and even meet a relative of Isabella's who is visiting from Italy. Also in the stands that night was Jessica Harman who was one of the best and toughest players I have ever coached. She graduated in 2008. After the game she texted me and said she approved of how we were running our 1-3-1. Since our alumni are my toughest critics (they all say I have gone soft) her feedback confirmed to me that we must be playing well.
I am always asked what the key to our success is. I really don't know. It could be PYB, our AAU club, my wife Robin, the coaches, the family support, the buy in from our athletes, the YMCA, that our varsity girls are leaders and role models in the community, Marlene (actually it probably is her) or the alumni support and the fact that they set such a good example of how things were to be done.
To say that one aspect is more important than another would be a disservice to the core values of this program which is the 100% principle. Which is that if everything you do is for the benefit of others good things always follow.
Anyways without any of those aspects we would not be the Penfield Basketball Program which I am extremely proud to be part of.
